Village Underground

Creative Direction + Brand Strategy + Brand Identity + Art Direction + Naming + Poster & Cover Art2019

Village Underground Lisboa (VULX) is a platform for creativity, art and culture, and a coworking space built from shipping containers and a repurposed bus that serves as a restaurant. It hosts an artistic community, a recording studio, and regular events across music, theatre, cinema and dance — with a strong focus on street culture.

In 2019, I joined the team to strengthen its communication, cultural positioning, and connection with artists and organizations. I developed creative strategies that maximized resources — bringing a videographer to create video content around events, designed advertising materials, flyers and posters, illustrated under the alias Georges-André.

I helped shape the strategy for a series of events aimed at activating different consumption moments and strengthening community engagement, such as Village Happy Hours, that brought together promoters, labels, artists and audiences, forming a creative ecosystem that led to the launch of Village People Mag, an online publication featuring interviews (like “Lisbon is the New Lisbon”, articles and playlists (Esplanada Tapes) that extended the event experience into daily life at the venue. I worked across all layers of this initiative — from concept and programming to content writing.

I also designed the first visuals for Acorde Maior, creative, collaborative, participatory music and cross-arts ensemble that engages young people that later evolved into Skoola, an inclusive urban music academy for children promoting artistic freedom and collaboration.

VULX was a fully collaborative and immersive project where I operated in a 360º role — from strategy and creative direction to fieldwork, content, community building and communication.
