Rockuduro

Throes + The Shine are the explosive collision of two worlds: raw rock energy and the infectious rhythm of kuduro. The project began in Porto in 2011, when rock duo Throes and kuduro band The Shine shared a small festival stage. The chemistry was instant. Despite their differences — post-hardcore guitars on one side, rapid-fire kuduro vocals on the other — they recorded a track together. The result was Batida, and the genre rockuduro was born.

Their first album, Rockuduro, was recorded in just seven days — a burst of high-energy sound made for the stage. Fast, loud and unapologetically hybrid, it brought together two continents and one purpose: to ignite the dancefloor. The band grew into a cult live act, touring their explosive show across Europe.

This project holds a special place for me — I had worked with both bands before their fusion, booking them for events like Sun-Explosion, Festival Náice! and Milhões de Festa. I contributed to the design of the album, witnessing a creative spark turn into a movement.

Visually, I wanted a bold, hand-drawn identity inspired by traditional African woodcuts — combining patterns, custom rock typography and ocean blue, symbolising the sea that connects Africa and Europe/America. The hypnotic CD label completed the experience.
